the Cévennes Museum offers you the exhibition "Le Voyage du Louvre from 1939 to 1945 in the company of Frédérique Hébrard and her parents Lucie Mazauric and André Chamson". The exhibition traces the journey of the works of the Louvre Museum through occupied France, in the face of the inexorable advance of enemy troops. Risking their lives, the curators and custodians of the National Museums faced dramatic situations and many twists and turns: evacuating the works, hiding them, avoiding fires, floods, bombings and threats of looting by Hitler.
The Cévennes Museum invites you to follow two exhibition routes: the first within the museum itself will tell you about the evacuation of works, the dangers of circulating in France with extremely rare paintings such as the Mona Lisa or the Jewish collections of Robert and Maurice de Rothschild during the Occupation, and will present to you the actors of this extraordinary adventure.
The second course, more fun, will take you on the Causses and in the Cévennes mountains alongof hiking circuits to meet the saved works, at random villages and exceptional panoramas.
