The road (D999) descends slightly to the junction of Pont d'Hérault then slightly uphill to Valleraugue (D986). Going up along the Hérault we can see the Aigoual massif in the distance and we guess that at some point we will have to climb these 1200m + to reach the summit of Gard, which rises to 1567 m. The serious things begin after crossing the village of Valleraugue, more precisely after the place called La Pénarié, with a succession of hairpin bends to L'Espérou (average of 5%).The climb that follows towards the Serreyrède pass and the Mont Aigoual observatory is gentler. From there, do not hesitate to admire the view over ? of France (in clear weather) from the Alps to the Pyrenees (watch out for weather conditions when you go up to Aigoual). You can eat at the top, one foot in Lozère and another in the Gard.
The return to Le Vigan via Esperou is regular with just a small false flat going up before the Col du Minier. At Espérou there is the option of going down by the Orgon waterfalls road to the Col de la Broue (be careful, narrow road and reduced visibility).
Electric bike charging station in the observatory parking lot (bring your cable).
