Well known and feared by runners in the region, the ascent to the summit of Mont Aigoual via the Col de la Luzette has everything to become legendary, especially since the passage of the Tour de France 2020.
It climbs slowly from the entrance to the Col des Mourèzes (D170). After Mandagout, on the D329 and especially in the last switchbacks before Cap de Coste, you will have to grit your teeth because the slope reaches up to 15% to soften up to the Col de la Luzette. But in good weather, around a bend, the effort will be rewarded with a breathtaking view:beyond the Pic St Loup, the entire Mediterranean coast.
From the Col de la Luzette, you can relaunch to L'Espérou and begin the gentler climb to the Mont Aigoual observatory, the summit of Gard, which rises to 1567 m. From up there, when the sky is clear, you can see ? of France, from the Alps to the Pyrenees (but always bring warm clothes when you go up to Aigoual). Catering possible.
The return to Le Vigan can be done via Valleraugue or via the Col du Minier.
Electric bike charging station in the observatory parking lot (bring your cable).
